Today, we are proud to celebrate two of our colleagues, David Seppola and Haakon Høie Heyeraas, who have been awarded medals for their service during a pivotal mission in Norway’s recent military history.
In the autumn of 2014, 190 soldiers from the Telemark Battalion (TMBN) of the Norwegian Armed Forces were deployed to Latvia as part of NATO’s increased presence in the Baltic region following Russia’s annexation of Crimea. The mission—Baltic Viking—took place from 22 September to 25 November 2014. David commanded the combat unit, while Haakon served as an officer in a subordinate unit.
During this deployment, the use of norBMS/FACNAV was instrumental in enhancing operational efficiency and situational awareness. The mission included NATO’s Silver Arrow exercise and bilateral training with Latvian and American forces. TMBN’s contribution, supported by FACNAV, played a significant role in strengthening NATO’s readiness and rapid response capabilities.
This operation was one of NATO’s first responses to the decisions made at the Wales Summit in September 2014. The importance of the mission was underscored by a visit from NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who met with the Norwegian soldiers on the ground.
While Norway’s formal participation in NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence began in 2017, the 2014 deployment was a critical step in building NATO’s deterrence and defence posture in the Baltics.
Teleplan Globe’s pedigree is built on the operational experience our people bring to the development of mission-critical solutions. In 2014, norBMS/FACNAV proved its value in the field; a decade later, both David and Haakon continue to apply their expertise to advance FACNAV’s capabilities and ensure our systems remain at the forefront of operational excellence.
Congratulations to David Seppola and Haakon Høie Heyeraas on this well-deserved recognition. Your service, both past and present, continues to strengthen our team and deliver lasting impact.
