FACNAV supports Digitally Aided Close Air Support (DACAS) and Digitally Aided Fire Support (DAFS) operations. Typical users are Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC)/ Forward Air Controllers (FAC) and Forward Observers (FO). The application is especially designed to operate on devices with touch sensitive screens (e.g. a rugged Tablet PC), but works perfectly also on standard computers. The main objective for the application is to support DACAS/DAFS operations, including tactical navigation in the field, automatic information exchange enabling Blue Force Tracking (BFT) to ensure:
• Force Security
• Accurate delivery of weapons on target
• Information exchange between Field Units, HQ and supporting Airborne Platforms
• Minimize third party collateral damage
FACNAV was developed in close cooperation with the Norwegian Armed Forces. The first version was available in April 2007 and was immediately fielded for live operational use. Since then several upgrades have been distributed including a separate headquarter (HQ) solution to ensure interoperability with NATO and allied forces. FACNAV has its own gateway module supporting Link 16, NFFI, CID, ASOC GW and Rosetta. FACNAV includes Battlefield Management System (BMS) functions such as BFT, distribution of a common situation picture and messaging and can easily be integrated with other BMS or C4IS solutions.
